Hint: Always make sure to cool down regular brewed coffee before adding it to the smoothie. Room temperature is best!

    🥄 Variations

A good substitution for protein powder is collagen powder or greek yogurt. Greek yogurt can add to the consistency of the smoothie and make it more creamy.

It is an option to use regular coffee in a smoothie, but it is not one that I would recommend. Smoothies are all about texture and if you are like me, I like a smoothie with a nice smooth and thick texture. If you decide to use coffee, it will alter the texture and you will end up needing more milk to cover the lack of liquid with ground coffee. My preferred coffee to use is cold brew or freshly brewed coffee. But in the end, if you are shooting for a certain texture, you can technically use this method.

There are cold brew options that allow you to pick a decaf version. These are a few cold brew brands that offer decaffeinated coffee:

    • Starbucks's
    • Grady's
    • Javy
    • Java
    • Amaretto
    • Southern Breeze

If you are a person who doesn't like the texture or flavor of bananas. I have a great alternative for you so that you can enjoy this recipe as much as the rest of us. You can use 1/2 cup of uncooked rolled oats, 1/2 avocado, 1/2 cup of full-fat greek yogurt, or use any other of your favorite frozen fruit that you desire.

    🍶 Storing

You don't want to keep your smoothie standing out too long, but if you do, make sure to mix mix MIX before drinking! Smoothies will oxidate when left out, and although that is not too bad. It will take away a lot of the benefits from the smoothie. Fresh is always best!

Refrigerator Storage: You will want to make sure to place the smoothie in a glass jar with a lid or keep it in the shaker. It can be stored in the freezer or in the fridge.

Freezer Storage: You can freeze in ice cube trays, then take them out and place into a freezer-safe Ziplock bag.

    💭Tip for Making the Perfect

    • To avoid any lumps or bumps in your smoothie, make sure, to begin with, liquids first! It is always smart to use a high powdered blender as well to make sure everything gets fully incorporated.
    • To keep your smoothie thick, frozen bananas are the best option. If you haven't gotten any frozen bananas, you can cut some up and chill them for an hour in the freezer.
    • If your smoothie becomes too thick, you can just add more coffee/liquid to the smoothie until you have your desired consistency.
